3 words we don't like to hear

And they are: it's your appendix.

I haven't posted in awhile because we had been pretty busy around here between Christmas, Kevin's nana visiting, and Lilith's birthday party. We decided to have her party a few weeks early so that Nana could be there for it, too. Well, my stomach had been bothering me that week again. Nana left on 1/10 and that night Kevin took me back to the ER. Their conclusion was it was just my Ovarian cysts or IBS. I was also really dehydrated. They referred me to the OB/GYN and gave me more pain pills. I saw the OB that Tuesday and she said everything was fine and the pain was coming from my abdominal area and to see my primary care Dr. Kevin decided to go into work on Wednesday just to come back home after a few hours because I was in so much pain. Mom also left work to come with us to the ER. We knew something was wrong, just not what. We left Lilith with our neighbor for the day and my sister in law came to watch her for the night. We were in the ER for about 6 hours before even seeing a Dr! (2.5 just in the waiting room!). Finally after a CT Scan, they said it was my appendix. I prepared myself for surgery, but they had a couple other ideas to try...neither of which worked. And I went into surgery that Saturday. I was released on Wednesday and was so happy to finally be home and with kiddo again! That week was the longest I have ever been away from her. I was so tired of my night nurses. They never brought my pain pills when they should. My daily list of pills is huge! I was sent home with 5 different meds, 2 of which were antibiotics. And that's not counting my daily things! I'm not really taking my pain pills much now. And I was actually able to sleep on my side for awhile last night. I see my surgin next Wednesday to see how things are looking. And I already have a tube of Merderma to use on the scar (there was a pretty big abcyss so they could remove it by laperoscopy and they're not sore how long it had been leaking). It's been hard not doing anything. I have a 10lb lifting limit. My mom got my aunt up here to help out and take care of Lilith. It's been nice and we're very thankful.

I was happy to have gotten home in time for kiddo's birthday. We had another very small party with my aunt, brother and his wife, and Kevin's sister. Kevin made his spaghetti and brownies. It's hard to believe that my baby is a 3 year old now. Pretty soon she'll be in dance or gymnastics. Then preschool. Then Kindergarten. She will be getting her big girl bed soon, too.

Ok, it's time to floss kiddo's teeth and read to her. More another day.

  1. I'm so sorry to hear that this happened! I'm curious how long and how bad the pain was before you called the doctor? Only because I wonder whether certain aches and pains are worth calling the doctor over sometimes . . . I tend to err on the side of toughing it out 99% of the time (which is probably not a good thing).

  2. Well, it depends on which time. I went to the ER 3 different times. The first time, it was a day. And the pain was so bad, my husband pretty much said he was taking me. The second, my stomach hurt for a week. And the third trip was just a couple of days later. If I had been having actual symptoms of Apendicitis, it may have been different. But, it was all my stomach and bowels.

When I was in the 6th grade, I broke my foot. My mom didn't believe how much it hurt to walk and wouldn't take me to the Dr for a day or so. My grandma finally told her to take me. LOL
